The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has given significant consideration to the Arabic web content, as part of its role to enhance utilization of Information AND Communication Technology in the Arab world and aiming to spread out the amount of Arabic content onto the World Wide Web whereas this amount is not balanced to number of Arabic speakers. In addition, it is very obvious that number of Arabic websites is getting higher; especially the Saudi ones, simultaneously with their users.
Accordingly, MCIT and in compliance with the National ICT plan, has presented the 'Digital Excellence Award' in the past two years 2005 AND 2006, and for the 3rd consecutive year as of 2007 which focuses particularly on the quality of Arabic web content in various branches. It uses scientific, announced evaluation standards.
The committee of this Award consists of six specialized members who have been wisely selected. Every competing Arabic website is inspected by independent arbitrators and specialists from various disciplines (Academia, Government Sector, and Private Sector). The electronic Arbitration process uses programmed measures, used by more than (40) arbitrators. Every website is evaluated by at least (7) arbitrators and all are hidden to guarantee unbiased results.
