The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Mohammed Jameel bin Ahmed Al-Mulla delivered a speech in the celebrations organized in honour of the winners of the Digital Excellence Award on Wednesday Dec 5, 2007 at the Royal Camp, Medarim Carawan Hotel. The minister congratulated the winners and praised the wonderful competition for excellence, notifying that the competition acquires more beauty when it tackles new horizons relative to information technology in general and the Internet in particular. He said the preparations for this yearصs award has been carried out systematically and carefully in participation with a folk of specialists from the different academic, governmental and private bodies. Arbitration has been accomplished in a number of phases for ensuring the quality of the results.
"The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has been aware of the vitality of information technology in nowadays business life since a long timeس, he said. زThe infrastructure for telecommunications and information technology has been, therefore, supported through a number of methods, procedures, and initiativesس, he said. زWithin this developmental option which has been given priority by the government, the Ministry of Communications launched three years ago the Digital Excellence Award for encouraging individual and institutional efforts to enrich the Arabic digital content, developing a spirit of fare competition for enriching and developing the Arabic digital content and relative applications, and creating awareness of the essentiality of having superior websitesس.
He wished success to the other particicipants in the coming years and hoped they will utilize the evaluation results in developing and updating their websites. زI hope the award will evoke a spirit of fare competition which is far away from personal impressions and excessive sensitivityس, he said. زIn the end, we must honour the winner who is selected by neutral and diligent arbitrators on the bases of standards made clear to all, even if its opinion is not acceptable by allس.
finally, the Minister appreciated the role of all who participated in making the activity a success.
The consultant of the minister and supervisor of the award Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Qasim also delivered a speech in which he said the award is the contribution of the Ministry of Communications for supporting the Saudi digital content. زA committee formed of six highly experienced specialists has been set for the prize works since its onsetس, he said. زA 40 member arbitration committee evaluates the contributionsس.
